HRa system of payment through which an employee is paid a predetermined amount for each unit of output. The rate of pay, or piece rate, is usually fixed subjectively, rather than by a more objective technique such as work study. Rates are said to be tight when it is difficult for an employee to earn a bonus and loose when bonuses are easily earned. It may also be allocated using a piece-rate system, where workers are paid for each unit of work they perform. -
